904-068
Amelia Island Concours
March 15, 2009

Finished, at last!!

The tow saved us waiting in a 45-minute line with all the other cars.
We got to go the back way, but don't tell anybody for next year.
Besides, I didn't want to burn the heat paint on the headers!

In good company...Joe Buzzetta's very nice 907 right next to us.

This one's for you Michael!

I wrote Michael a letter this morning and said "better late than never".
I know he was thinking, "thank God I've lived long enough to be able to drive it".

You have to remember, this car was cut in two way back in 1966.
Good thing, Polak kept it all those years.

It was nice that Carl Thompson thought of me
when the Foundation started selling Vasek Polak's Estate.
Here I am wiping off grass...but don't tell anybody I am doing this!

The cockpit is just as simple as all the other 904's,
except we've installed one of Jeffrey's Momo Manza steering wheels.
The wooden one is too dangerous to race with.
Besides, we didn't have one.

How about sitting next to a Cobra Daytona?
Peter Brock designed this super-sexy, super-rare, $15 million + car.

Here, I am on the staging hump,
waiting for the green light to drive to the trophy podium.

Little did I know, Jean was coming up behind me to receive his trophies.

This is 906-127. If you remember, we restored this car a few years back.
Willison Werkstatt takes care of this car now and does a fantastic job!
Congratulations to you guys!!

Here, I am receiving the first year of the
"Joe Pendergast Memorial Trophy" for
"Most Outstanding RACE CAR"
Tim, Joe's son, presented us with the trophy.
This trophy is special to Gunnar Racing because of our relationship
through the years racing against and racing for Joe and his family.
We are proud to be the first recipient of this award!

I am driving back from the podium with a big smile on my face
and honking the little whoosie horn that the 904's all had to have.

CONGRATULATIONS MICHAEL!!
This trophy should be very special to all the folks in the Jacksonville area
because it began the Porsche racing career of Peter Gregg,
and especially for George Drolson, Peter's co-driver at Daytona 1966,
who was attending as a V.I.P. for Amelia Island Concours.
George is doing quite well, although we missed the chance for a picture with George,
but we'll get one sooner or later.
Our thanks to Bill Warner and his group for putting on such an AWESOME concours.
Monterey...Look Out!
